Historic Turkish Bath Transformed into Coffee Haven

In Kocaeli’s Izmit district, a 600-year-old Turkish bath, known as the Süleyman Pasha Bath, has been rejuvenated into a cultural hotspot. Managed by the Izmit Municipality, the historical bath underwent a makeover last year, converting its bath section into a coffee exhibition adorned with antique objects. The adjacent “Şehr-i İzmit” cafe complements the historical ambiance, displaying inscriptions about coffee’s history, copper-embroidered antique barbecues, traditional coffee pots, cups, and pitchers. Citizens now have the unique experience of sipping coffee in this centuries-old bath, appreciating the blend of history and modernity.

One visitor, Betül Korkmaz, shared her experience, expressing the joy of discovering the place on social media. She praised the thoughtful concept, the scenic view, and the Ottoman Empire-inspired artworks inside the bath. As a coffee enthusiast, Korkmaz found drinking coffee in this historic setting to be a distinct and delightful experience.
