Fifteen babies have tragically died after a fire tore through the neonatal unit of a hospital in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad. The early morning blaze at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences is believed to have been sparked by an exploding air conditioning compressor. Out of the 16 infants receiving care in the third-floor ward at the time, only one survived the devastating incident. Ordering an immediate investigation, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif offered his condolences to the families and vowed that those responsible would be punished “in the harshest way.”
