A fire broke out in a hospital in Pingtung, a town in southern Taiwan that was hit by Typhoon Krathon for an unknown reason. Taiwanese authorities announced that 9 people died from smoke inhalation. The hospital was evacuated with the help of soldiers from a nearby base and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
The death toll from Typhoon Krathon, which hit the city of Kaohsiung in southwestern Taiwan, has risen to 123.
