Hungary’s Orban Highlights EU-Turkic Relations at Summit

At the 11th Turkic States Organization (TDT) Summit in Bishkek, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban emphasized a shift toward peace in the European Union’s approach to global conflicts. Orban, who launched a peace mission as EU president, expressed gratitude to Turkish President Erdoğan for supporting efforts to transform Europe’s war stance into a peace strategy. He stressed, “There is still a large majority in the EU that is pro-war, but Europe needs a new strategy.”

Orban highlighted growing Hungary-Turkic ties, noting that Hungary is the first non-bordering country to receive Turkish natural gas. Trade with Turkic nations has also exceeded $5 billion, and Hungarian oil companies are operating in Kazakhstan. Hungary, as an observer member of the TDT, aims to enhance collaboration with Turkic states on economic, energy, and climate initiatives, including establishing a European Central Drought Mitigation Institute in Budapest.

Orban received the Ali Medal of the Turkic World at the summit for his contributions to strengthening Turkic-European relations.
