Hurricane Mandous caused 4 deaths with heavy rainfall and winds reaching 75 kilometers per hour in Tamil Nadu state of India. State Prime Minister Muthuvel Stalin stated that 185 houses and cottages were damaged throughout the state, and that aid efforts continue with participation of 25 thousand people.
The hurricane caused the destruction of hundreds of trees in various parts of the state, damaged fishing boats in coastal areas, and blown away the tin roofs on some small structures.
A total of 16 flights were canceled at the capital Chennai Airport.
Five thousand aid points, which also serve as shelters, have been established in the disaster area, and 9 thousand citizens who have been evacuated from their homes so far have been placed in shelters.
The Indian Meteorological Department announced that the hurricane is moving in a southwesterly direction and weakening.
