International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi visited the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant in Russia, a site under attack by Ukrainian forces since August 6. Grossi expressed concern over the plant’s vulnerability, noting that it lacks the protective dome typically found in modern nuclear facilities, making it susceptible to missile, drone, or artillery strikes. He highlighted that the plant, similar in design to the Chernobyl facility that caused the 1986 disaster, poses a significant risk. Despite current operations being close to normal, Grossi warned that the ongoing conflict in the Kursk region increases the danger of a nuclear accident.
