The tradition of shooting cannons special for the month of Ramadan dates back to the period of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. While artillery was banned after the Second World War and the arrival of the Communists, artillery was resumed after the 1990 elections.
The fortress, which has an impressive view of the capital Sarajevo, also attracts thousands of tourists every year.
