Illegal Border Crossings at US-Mexico Border Hit 50-Year Low

Illegal crossings along the US-Mexico border have fallen to their lowest level since 1970, according to data from the Department of Homeland Security. Border agents intercepted about 238,000 migrants in fiscal year 2025, marking a sharp decline from previous years. Officials said monthly crossings dropped below 9,000 during President Donald Trump’s term. White House Press Secretary Abigail Jackson credited Trump’s stricter border policies, saying, “Americans are safer now.” The administration has expanded immigration enforcement, ended asylum applications, and pledged mass deportations, sparking backlash in major US cities.
