India’s Punjab Chief Minister hospitalized after drinking water from ‘sacred’ river

India’s Punjab State Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited the city of Sultanpur Lodhi to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of its cleansing from the sacred Kali Bein River. Prime Minister Mann drank a glass of water from the river to show that the water is still clean enough to drink at the ceremony held as part of the anniversary. Two days after the incident, on July 19, Mann, who was stated to be ill at his official residence in Chandigarh, was taken to a hospital in Delhi with complaints of abdominal pain. CM Mann, who was treated, was later discharged.
