India’s Retail Inflation Drops to 15-Month Low in March

India’s retail inflation dropped to a 15-month low at 5.66% in March, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI) on Monday. The fall was mainly due to a decline in the prices of essential commodities such as vegetables, meat, fish, and oil. Food inflation also decreased to 4.79% in March from 5.95% in February. The data collected by the National Statistical Office (NSO) from 1,114 urban markets and 1,181 villages covering all states through personal visits by field staff shows that inflation eased to 5.51% in rural areas and 5.89% in urban areas.
