An eruption occurred at around 12:00 local time on the 2,963-meter-high Merapi Volcano, located between the center of Indonesia’s Java Island and Yogyakarta. It was reported that the volcano spewed ash and smoke up to 7 kilometers in height and that a 1.5-kilometer lava flow was observed.
Those living in areas close to the volcano have been asked to stop all activities that could endanger their lives. No one has been evacuated so far.
In the eruptions of Merapi Volcano in 2010, at least 200 people lost their lives and hundreds of others had to leave their homes.
