Iran Says UNESCO Site Damaged in Isfahan Attack

Iran said the Chehel Sotoun Palace in Isfahan, a UNESCO World Heritage site within Naqsh-e Jahan Square, was damaged during U.S. and Israeli attacks. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bekayi said the historic Safavid palace was hit as strikes targeted a government building about 110 meters away.

“Following the attack on the Golestan Palace in Tehran, another cultural heritage site of universal importance has been damaged,” Bekayi said. He called on the international community to respond, adding that “the world cannot remain silent while the aggressors’ brutal crimes threaten humanity’s common heritage.”
