Nobel Peace Prize winner for 2023, Narges Mohammadi, was announced by Berit Reiss-Andersen, President of the Swedish Nobel Committee, in Stockholm, Sweden. She is recognized for her tireless efforts in advocating for human rights and freedoms, particularly her fight against the oppression of women in Iran. Despite facing numerous arrests, convictions, and a long prison sentence in Iran, Mohammadi’s dedication has gained international attention. She is set to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in September 2022, following nationwide protests triggered by the tragic death of Mahsa Amini under the Iranian morality police’s supervision.
