Iranians Visiting Türkiye Say Iran Death Toll Higher Than Official Figures

As protests and internal unrest continue in Iran, Iranian tourists entering Türkiye through the Kapıköy Border Crossing said the death toll may be higher than official figures. Visitors staying briefly in Van reported internet outages and limited access to television in Iran, but avoided detailed public comments due to security concerns. Many said they were visiting Türkiye for a short holiday before returning home.

Turkish officials stated that border crossings are continuing normally with no extraordinary situation. Meanwhile, the US-based group Human Rights Activists of Iran reported at least 2,571 deaths and 18,434 detentions since protests began on December 28.
