Iraqi parliament approves law criminalizing normalization with Israel

The Iraqi parliament unanimously approved the bill, which considers normalization or establishing relations with Israel a crime, in the session in which 275 deputies were present. With the approved law, the penalty for political and diplomatic cooperation with Israel is life imprisonment or death penalty. Shiite Sadr Group leader Muqtada al-Sadr called on his supporters to celebrate after the law was approved. Sadr supporters answered the call and celebrated in the famous Tahrir Square in the capital, Baghdad. The demonstrators gathered in the square chanted “No to Israel, no to falsehood, yes to Iraq” and “Death to Israel”.
