IRGC Launches Strait of Hormuz Drill Ahead of Iran-US Talks

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched a military exercise called “Smart Control of the Strait of Hormuz” in the Strait of Hormuz ahead of indirect talks with the United States set to take place in Geneva, Switzerland. The IRGC said the drill aims to test readiness, review threat scenarios and strengthen maritime security.

The Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy shipments, remains strategically sensitive amid rising regional military activity. The upcoming Iran-US talks, mediated by Oman, are expected to focus on Tehran’s nuclear program and possible sanctions relief.
