Israel Kills Hezbollah Commander in Beirut Despite Ceasefire

The Israeli military has confirmed the death of Ahmed Ghalib Balut, a senior commander of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force, in a targeted airstrike on Beirut’s southern Dahiye district. The assassination marks the first attack on the Lebanese capital since a ceasefire agreement initially took effect in mid-April. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Balut was a veteran operative who previously served as the unit’s operations chief. Hezbollah has not yet issued a public response regarding his death. Despite the official ceasefire being extended through May 17, the fragile truce remains under severe strain amid reports of daily Israeli airstrikes and ongoing home demolitions
