Israeli Representative’s Speech Sparks Mass Walkout at IPU General Assembly

At the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly in Geneva, numerous parliamentarians protested the speech of Israeli representative Dan Illouz, leading to a mass walkout. Before Illouz, a member of Israel’s Likud party, began speaking, some delegates chanted “Freedom for Palestine” and banged on tables in protest. The protest, reportedly initiated by the Palestinian delegation, saw representatives from various countries, including Türkiye, exit the hall. This was the second consecutive session where the Israeli delegation faced a large-scale protest.
