Istanbul becomes home port for giant cruise ship ‘Costa Venezia’

The giant cruise ship ‘Costa Venezia’ has completed its 15th voyage from Istanbul, Türkiye. Since May 2, the ship, which is 363 meters long, 45 meters wide, and has 22 floors, has brought 100,000 tourists to Istanbul. The cruise ship “Costa Venezia,” which can carry 8,000 passengers, has chosen Istanbul as its home port. Galataport is designated as the home port of the ship, which reduces the cost of a cruise vacation for domestic tourists.

Stating that they brought Costa Venezia to Türkiye permanently, Ay Cruise Chairman of the Board Çetin Ay said, “Istanbul has become the first destination for tourists that want to take cruise vacation. Our guests who come to Istanbul stay here, shop and contribute to the tourism economy. With Galataport becoming the home port, Turkish citizens can also have a cheaper cruise ship holiday, and since the home port is Istanbul, the holiday is about 5 times cheaper.”

Saying that the occupancy rate of the surrounding hotels increased with the arrival of Costa Venezia to Istanbul as the home port, Ay said, “We aim to increase the number of cruise ships to three. The occupancy rate in the surrounding hotels rises as the ship arrives at the port.” said.
