Ekrem İmamoğlu, the mayor of Türkiye’s Istanbul who was detained on Wednesday in line with the investigations launched on charges of corruption and supporting terrorism, has been arrested.
It was stated that İmamoğlu was arrested over the charges of ‘establishing and managing a criminal organization’, ‘taking bribes’, ‘extortion’, ‘unlawfully recording personal data’ and ‘rigging a tender’ within the scope of the ‘corruption’ investigation, but, although there was a strong suspicion, the charges of ‘aiding armed terrorist organizations’ were dropped since it was already decided that he would be arrested for financial crimes.
