Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen Airport Expansion Nears Completion

Preparations for Sabiha Gökçen Airport’s second runway, set to double its capacity, are in their final stages. The new runway, planned to increase passenger capacity from 30 million to 70 million, is nearing completion after starting construction in 2014. A new terminal will also be added to the airport, designed to improve passenger flow and align with maintenance facilities. The existing runway will undergo maintenance for about six months when the new runway becomes operational, with full two-runway operations expected to start in early 2024. These projects aim to enhance efficiency through parallel approaches and takeoffs.
