Italian Police Detains 181 Sicilian Mafia

Italian police detained 181 people in a large-scale operation against the Cosa Nostra criminal organization, also known as the “Sicilian Mafia,” in the Italian city of Palermo.

The suspects were accused of various crimes, including drug trafficking, attempted murder, extortion, illegal gambling and illegal possession of firearms.

The police stated that additional arrest warrants were issued for 33 suspects who were already in prison for other crimes.

Police said that investigations revealed that mafia families in Palermo were coordinating drug trafficking in particular throughout the city, as they did in the past.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that Cosa Nostra had been dealt a major blow and that the fight against the mafia would continue.
