Clashes erupted in Turin, Italy, during a protest against the closure of the left-wing Askatasuna Cultural Center, leaving 11 police officers injured. Around 20,000 people took part in the demonstration before violence broke out, with police using tear gas and water cannons as protesters threw stones, bottles, and fireworks. A police van and several trash containers were set on fire, and authorities detained 10 people, while the number of injured protesters was not disclosed.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the violence as “serious and unacceptable,” saying those involved were “acting as enemies of the state,” and later visited an injured police officer in hospital.
