Japan Battles Wildfires in Okayama and Ehime

Forest fires in Japan’s Okayama and Ehime prefectures have scorched 355 hectares, prompting evacuation warnings for 893 residents. Strong winds and dry conditions fueled the spread, damaging at least six structures.

Authorities suspended some train services and closed highways as the Japan Self-Defense Forces (SDF) were deployed to assist firefighting efforts. The battle against the flames continues.

Last month, a wildfire in Iwate Prefecture burned 2,900 hectares, killing one person and damaging 171 buildings before being contained in 12 days.
