Japan Wildfires Trigger Mass Evacuations

Severe forest fires burning across two separate areas in northeastern Japan’s Iwate Prefecture have destroyed approximately 200 hectares of land. The fast-spreading blazes broke out in the Kozuchi and Kirikiri districts near the coastal town of Otsuchi, prompting officials to issue urgent evacuation warnings for 2,588 residents across 1,229 households. While the exact cause remains unknown, numerous firefighting crews have been rapidly deployed to the region to contain the advancing flames. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far, and the Japanese Prime Minister’s Office has established a dedicated crisis liaison center to coordinate the ongoing emergency response
