Japanese scientist shared satellite photos of fault line in Türkiye

The effects of the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes that occurred in Pazarcık and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaraş and caused destruction in ten provinces are still felt today. Professor Hidenori Watanabe of the University of Tokyo’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Studies has released satellite photos of the destruction the earthquake caused. With these photographs, Watanabe analyzed the epicenter of the earthquake and shared the results on his social media accounts.

He posted photos of the fault line from the Nurdağı district of Gaziantep to the Islahiye district. He also commented on the satellite photos of Şanlurfa: “The aid tents seen in various places of the city reveal the magnitude of the damage”. Then, Watanabe showed the satellite photos of Hatay with the caption: “The destruction of most of the high-rise buildings in the city caused great damage”.
