A kitten that surprisingly makes chicken-like sound while purring due to an anomaly in its body was detected in Eskişehir, Türkiye. It was immediately taken to the veterinary clinic for treatment and was found to have the megaesophagus disease, meaning that its esophagus was larger than normal, which also results in anorexia and vomiting.
“The reason for this sound is that the esophagus is extremely enlarged, causing pressure on the trachea and pharynx. This causes vibrations there and it sometimes sounds like a chicken clucking. We expect this to improve; we have seen such cases before. Not every megaesophagus patient makes such sounds; the disease is probably a bit advanced in this cat,” said Veterinarian Evren Fatih Mumcu, also mentioning that the kitten should be fed while standing on its rear legs.
