Kızılırmak Delta Wetland and Bird Sanctuary, located on the border of several districts of Türkiye’s Samsun’s, was flooded with visitors in 2023. Data shows that, throughout the last year, around 100,000 people visited the 56-square-kilometer area, which hosts 15 of the 24 bird species in danger of extinction and 365 of the 500 bird species seen in the country.
The region, which is one of the most important Turkish wetlands, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2016.
