A knife-wielding assailant approached a police officer from behind and attacked him with a knife on Istiklal Street in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, Türkiye, at around 11:00 local time. The officer, who was injured in the back of the neck, was immediately taken to the hospital and reported to be in a non-life-threatening condition.
The 34-year-old assailant, who was caught and arrested in the Kasımpaşa district, was found to have a record of ‘using drugs’ and ‘disturbing the peace and tranquility of individuals’ and was receiving psychological treatment.
