Cumbre Veja Volcano on Spain’s La Palma Island has set a new local record by erupting for 85 consecutive days, beginning on September 19. More than 1,200 hectares of land were affected by the lava-spewing volcano, and nearly 3,000 buildings were rendered unusable. Thousands of people have been evacuated from the region. The Spanish government has allocated €130 million to the island’s residents to compensate for the damage caused by the volcano.
