Lake Kellah turns white after drought

Kellah Lake, located about 5 kilometers from Sivas’ Ulaş district in Türkiye, has completely dried up this year due to the drought, as it has in previous years. A white layer formed, which resembles the surface of the moon after water receded.

“Previously, it was a place with water, wild birds, and dense reeds,” Kaya Çıldır said of the lake drying up due to the drought. “It was a pleasant existence here. The region’s flora was diverse. However, a drought has begun to occur here in the last ten years or so. Of course, it’s beautiful in appearance, but because the ground in this area is salt, it’s white,” he explained.
