The spilling amount of lava into the sea in Spain is covered bigger than 25 football fields, gaining more ground for La Palma island, Spanish authorities said. Following the eruption of volcano in Spain’s Cumbre Vieja mountain in southwestern region of the country, La Palma Island was declared as “disaster area”.
According to the Canary Islands Institute of Volcanology (Involcan), delta formed on the island’s coast that occured as a result of the hardening of lava combined with the water has reached 20 hectares.
More than 6 thousand people had to leave their homes after the volcano erupted on September 19.
No fatalities reported so far.
