Lavrov Hopes Doha Talks Aid Syria Stability

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced plans to meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Iranian counterpart Abbas Arakchi during the Doha Forum in Qatar, stating, “I hope the meeting will help stabilize the situation in Syria.”

In an interview, Lavrov criticized U.S. support for Ukraine, saying, “We are not officially at war, but what is happening in Ukraine is a hybrid war, made possible by direct U.S. military support.” He warned, “The use of ATACMS and other long-range weapons against Russian territory is dangerous.”

Regarding Syria, Lavrov accused the U.S. of using profits from oil and grain in eastern Syria to back Kurdish separatists, calling it “a serious concern.” He emphasized the importance of the Astana process, saying, “The rules of the game are to help Syrians reach agreement and prevent separatist threats.”

Lavrov confirmed the trilateral meeting in Doha would address Idlib’s de-escalation zone, stressing, “We must return to strict implementation of agreements to avoid further escalation.” Military and security officials from Russia, Türkiye, and Iran are also in active contact, he added.
