Eighty-two loggerhead sea turtle (caretta caretta) hatchlings have successfully reached the water after emerging from a nest tucked among the sunbeds on a hotel beach in Didim, Türkiye. Conservation teams gently assisted some of the baby turtles in navigating the coarse sand, bringing the district’s total number of successful hatchlings to 476 this season. Hotel owner Kadir Karakaya, who received a “Caretta Friendly” certificate for safeguarding the site, shared that the rare event brought great joy and made the guests, “especially the children, happy.” With 19 nests recorded across the wider region this year, this successful hatch marks the near end of a highly fruitful nesting season on the Turkish coast.
