Lviv train station has become symbol of hope and sadness for Ukrainians fleeing the war

Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes after Russia’s attacks on Ukraine. People who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict attempt to reach safety by taking the first train they can find. The train station in Lviv, which was previously regarded as one of the safest cities in Ukraine before the Russian attacks, is experiencing its busiest days ever. While there is a great fear and chaos at the train station, people wait for hours at a time to board the trains that come at regular intervals. It takes days to reach the border.

Many people, waiting on the ground with children in their arms, cannot stop their tears. The train station is home to Ukrainians who are both sad and happy to be able to leave the city. Those who arrived in Lviv after surviving the bombardment in Kyiv experience both great joy, and sadness as not everyone is able to get on trains. Outside the train station, volunteers from Lviv are working hard to help the people waiting here.
