French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he decided to dissolve the French National Assembly after the far-right party Rassemblement National received roughly twice as many votes as his own party, Renaissance, according to unofficial results in the European Parliament (EP) elections yesterday. Macron stated that it was a serious decision, but he saw it as a sign of trust in democracy.
“The rise of nationalists is a danger for our nation, our Europe and France’s place on the world stage. The far right is the impoverishment of the French and the decline of our country,” said Macron.
