Magnitude 7 Earthquake Hits Papua New Guinea, Causing Four Deaths

A magnitude 7 earthquake struck Lake Chambri in Papua New Guinea at 04:00 local time yesterday. Four deaths and 17 injuries were reported. Twenty-three villages were heavily damaged and more than 300 houses were destroyed, according to authorities.

Mathew Moihoi, Deputy Director of the Port Moresby Geophysical Observatory, said it could take several days to determine the extent of the damage in the area.
