Major Wildfire Rages South of Paris

Amid extreme heat across Western Europe, a wind-driven wildfire has scorched 1,980 acres in a famous forest just south of the French capital. The rapidly spreading flames forced the closure of a major motorway connecting Paris to southern France and disrupted regional high-speed train services. Over 400 firefighters battled the massive blaze through the night, supported by two deployed firefighting planes. Residents have been warned that Canadair aircraft will be drawing water directly from the Seine River as the French fire department declared, “The fight continues today.”
