An attacker in his vehicle threw at least 5 Molotov cocktails at the entrance of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s headquarters in the Chiyoda district of Tokyo, Japan, at around 05:50 local time, causing a fire in a police vehicle. Following the attack, the suspect drove his vehicle to the Prime Minister’s Office of Japan, which is approximately 500 meters away, and crashed into security barriers while trying to enter the office’s campus, which resulted in his own vehicle catching fire. The suspect, then, tried to throw an object resembling a smoke bomb at the police and was taken into custody.
Japan will hold general elections on October 27.
