Man survived on ketchup while being adrift in sea for 24 days

Elvis Francois was stranded while trying to repair a boat in the harbor on Saint Martin Island in the Caribbean Sea. Being adrift at sea for 24 days, 47-year-old Francois survived by eating one bottle of ketchup, garlic powder and bouillon cubes. Writing “help” on the hull of the sailboat, Francois was rescued after reflecting the sun’s rays using a mirror and signaling to a plane.

According to the navy, he received a medical examination before being handed over to immigration officials for return to his home country of Dominica. His health condition is reported to be good, but he has lost weight.
