Manhattan Skyscraper Evacuated After Columns Tilt

A 38-story skyscraper in Manhattan was completely evacuated after supporting columns on its 21st and 22nd floors tilted, causing several floors to sag. The building, currently undergoing what is described as “one of New York’s largest office-to-residential conversion projects,” prompted an emergency response when brick fragments began falling to the street. Firefighters safely cleared the site and nearby structures, including a school with roughly 400 students, with zero injuries reported during the morning rush hour. Major streets remain closed while engineers inspect the site, and authorities confirmed that area evacuations “will continue until the structural risk is eliminated.” New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is expected to address the public shortly in a press conference regarding the incident.
