Istanbul’s Marmaray rail line, easing traffic between Europe and Asia, has transported over 1.2 billion passengers since opening. Now marking its 11th anniversary, Marmaray recorded 208 million passengers in the first 10 months of 2024 alone, with 287 daily trips providing swift, 4-minute cross-Bosphorus transit.
Initially delayed by 4.5 years due to archaeological discoveries and legal rulings, the 76.6-km Marmaray line has grown its annual ridership over 20 times since 2013. Beyond passengers, nearly 4,000 freight trains have also used the line, strengthening Marmaray’s role in regional trade logistics.
