Due to an error in the national power grid, almost all regions, including Dhaka, the capital, of Bangladesh are left in the dark. The state-run Bangladesh Power Development Board stated that electricity transmission was cut off in an area in the eastern part of the country, leaving about 140 million people without power.
The spokesperson of the institute, Shamim Hasan, said that the power grid went off at 14:00 local time and all regions aside from northwestern areas lacked electricity. He added that engineers are working to detect the failure and it may take hours to fix it.
