Mass Protests In Europe Over Israel’s Sumud Flotilla Raid

Tens of thousands joined pro-Palestinian protests across Spain and Italy to condemn Israel’s raid on the Global Sumud Flotilla and its blockade of Gaza.

In Barcelona, police reported 70,000 participants, eight arrests, and 20 injured officers, while organizers claimed attendance reached 300,000. Similar rallies in Madrid drew up to 400,000 people, according to organizers.

In Italy, around 250,000 demonstrators gathered in Rome, with unions estimating nearly one million nationwide. Clashes erupted near the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where protesters set fires and threw projectiles at police. Twelve people were detained. Spain also confirmed that 21 of its 49 citizens detained on the flotilla will return home.
