Within the scope of Spain’s 29th Trashumancia Festival, a flock of 1,200 sheep and 200 goats roamed around the historical Madrid streets. In addition to the parade attended by shepherds and their families, songs were sung in accompaniment with instruments.
The Trashumancia Festival, which has been held in Madrid since 1994, draws attention to animal husbandry in pastures and plateaus. The demands on the protection of roads and grassland areas that are used by shepherds, the continuation of biological diversity, and the increase of measures taken against climate change and forest fires are also highlighted through the festival.
