A 20-meter-wide sinkhole opened in the village of Godstone, southern England, swallowing a garden and forcing the evacuation of 30 homes. The collapse began on Monday night and expanded into Tuesday morning.
Residents reported hearing loud noises before the ground gave way. One homeowner, Rez Mira, described watching her garden disappear, saying, “The wall is definitely going to collapse. We are very scared.” The affected homes were built three years ago on a former sand quarry.
Authorities have urged locals to stay away as investigations continue.
