Massoud Pezeshkiyan Makes First Speech after Iranian Presidential Election

Tabriz Deputy Massoud Pezeshkiyan became Iran’s new president, receiving 53.7 percent of the presidential election’s results, which were published yesterday. He left behind his conservative opponent, former Secretary General of the Supreme National Security Council Said Celili, with around 9 points.

The reformist president, who made his first post-election speech today in the capital Tehran after his election victory, thanked everyone who voted for him and said that he would dedicate himself to serving the people, that he sees all citizens who vote or not as equals, and that he does not make any promises that he cannot fulfill.

The Supreme Electoral Council reported that the election participation rate was 49.8 percent.
