migrant boat with 22 on board sinks off Lesbos: 4 dead

A migrant boat with 22 immigrants on board sank off the island of Lesbos in the Aegean Sea yesterday. Eighteen people were saved, while four children lost their lives in the disaster. Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis stated that the casualties were three girls aged 11 months, 8 years, and 14 years, and a boy aged 8 years. No information on the immigrants’ nationalities was given.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 15,600 immigrants have entered Greece, making the country one of the main entrance points to the European Union for Middle Eastern, African, and Asian immigrants fleeing due to bad living conditions and conflicts.
