Migratory Birds Flock to Thawing Lake in Türkiye

As winter temperatures rise in the Ahlat district of Bitlis, Türkiye, Lake Nazik has become a vibrant hub for migratory birds. The frozen surface of the lake has started to thaw, creating open puddles that have attracted various species, including crested ducks, common pochards, mallards, and coots.

Local photographers and nature enthusiasts have traveled to the region to capture the scene of birds gliding between the ice floes. Lake Nazik is a critical habitat in Eastern Türkiye, and bird activity is expected to surge as the ice continues to melt throughout the spring.
