As a result of the vote held in the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, supported by President-elect Donald Trump, was re-elected as speaker of the House by a vote of 215 to 218.
After the removal of Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from office by his party in 2023, 15 rounds of voting were held in the House of Representatives over 4 days and Johnson was elected in his place.
Mike’s victory would be a great gain for the Republican Party, Trump said in a statement before the vote.
